National Highways

There are 23 National Highways in the state of Telangana. National highways cover a length of 4,983 km in Telangana at present. It was a mere 2,511 km in 2014.

Mar 23, 2023 - Telangana's R&B Department currently maintains 32445 km of roads, of which 27461 km are State highways and 4983 km are National Highways.  There are no Nation Expressways in Telangana.

Expressways are the highest class of roads in India. In July 2023, the total length of expressways in India was 5,579 km (3,467 mi), with 8,366 km (5,198 mi) under construction. These are controlled-access highways where entrance and exits are controlled by the use of cloverleaf or trumpet or grade separated interchanges that are incorporated into the design of the expressway and designed for maximum speed of 120 km/h, whereas National highways are flyover access or tolled, where entrance and exit is through the side of the flyover, at each intersection of highway with road, flyovers are provided to bypass the city/town/village traffic and these highways are designed for speed of 100 km/h.

162.12 km Khammam – Devarapalli Expressway (NH-365BG) by NHAI is an under construction 4 lane access-controlled highway with a route alignment in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. It forms a part of the 221 km Suryapet – Devarapalle Expressway (NH-365BB) being built at a cost of Rs. 4939 crore. 

NH 163 is the longest highway in Telangana with 438 km (272 mi) passing through Telangana, has a total length of 474 km (295 mi).

    • Total Length : 1,984.3 km (1,233.0 mi).
    • Start : NH 9 at Sitarganj in Uttarakhand
    • End : NH 65 at Ibrahimpatnam, Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh
    • States : Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh in India.
    • Length in Telangana : 100.40 kms or 62.4 miles
    • Start : Bhadrachalam - Palwancha (Bhadradri Kothagudem)
    • End : Muthagudem (Khammam) 
    • Districts : Bhadradri Kothagudem and Khammam

    • Length : 758 kms ( 57.3 kms in Telangana)
    • Start : Bhiwandi in Maharashtra
    • End: NH-63 near Jagitial in Telangana
    • Length in Telangana : 35.6 miles / 57.3 kms starting near Nirmal, Khanapur, Mallapuram, Raikal -junction with NH-63 near Jagityal. 
  4. National Highway 63 (NH 63 or NH63)
    • Length : 860 km or 530 mi (164.4 miles or 264.5 kms in Telangana)
    • Start : Barshi, Maharashtra State
    • End : Boriguma, Orissa State
    • States : Maharashtra, Telangana,  Chhattisgarh, Orissa
    • Districts in Telangana : Nizamabad, Jagitial, Mancherial
    • As NH-63 enters Telangana, it connects towns like Bodhan, Nizamabad, Armoor, Metpalli, Koratla, Jagtial, Lakshettipet, Dharmapuri, Mancherial, and Chinnoor (Chennur).
    • The NHAI proposed to create a 143 kilometre four-lane highway from Armoor of Nizamabad district to Mancherial district centre via Jagtial district.

Telangana Geographical Indication (GI) products

A Geographical Indication (GI) is a sign used on products that have a specific geographical origin and possess qualities or reputation that are typical to that origin. Across the world, such select products are recognised and GI tagged. This tag signifies the product’s unique identity and genuineness. The GI tag helps spread awareness and build confidence amongst the buying community GI tag get better prices as the tag is an assured symbol of quality. Pochampally Ikat was the first product from the state to receive the GI tag in 2005. A total of 432 products in India have been granted GI status in India, with Darjeeling Tea being the first product to receive GI status in 2004-05. The registration of a GI is valid for 10 years from the date of issue and can be renewed every 10 years.
