📍 Nagarjunakonda (meaning “Nagarjuna Hill”) is a historical town, now an island located in the Nagarjuna Sagar reservoir in Palnadu district, Andhra Pradesh , about 160 km from Hyderabad . Once the glorious capital Vijayapuri of the Ikshvaku dynasty (3rd–4th century CE), it was a global centre for Buddhism, attracting scholars from Sri Lanka, China, and beyond. Today, it houses an island museum with Buddhist relics, stupas, a monolithic Buddha statue, and a reconstructed fort.
