TGTWREIS – Empowering Tribal Youth Through Gurukulam Excellence

Legacy since 1984 | 165+ institutions | Vision 2025

๐Ÿงก From one school in Sarvail to a statewide revolution – 4 decades of transforming tribal education.

๐ŸŒพ Genesis & Evolution

The Telangana Tribal Welfare Residential Educational Society (TGTWREIS) originated from the APTWREIS founded in 1984 by former Chief Minister N. T. Rama Rao to provide quality education to children from marginalized communities. After the formation of Telangana, the society expanded dramatically. Today, TGTWREIS is a pioneering institution dedicated to holistic development of tribal students.

Landmark beginning: Telangana State Residential School, Sarvail (established 23 November 1971) was the first residential school set up by a state government in India. Under the vision of then CM Shri P. V. Narasimha Rao and Sarvodaya leader Maddi Narayana Reddy (who donated 44 acres), the Sarvail school laid the foundation. It later inspired the Navodaya Vidyalaya concept.

๐Ÿ“œ Vision & Mission

Vision: To outreach and help every tribal child outperform, actively serving the community for a better tomorrow.
Mission: Empower students to succeed academically, become responsible citizens, and channel their potential for individual and societal welfare.

The society creates vibrant learning centers with a congenial atmosphere to develop ethically strong, morally elevated individuals. Special focus on bridging literacy gaps, especially for tribal girls in naxal‑affected and PTG areas.

๐Ÿ“š Admissions & Unified Entrance

Current admission practice

Each welfare Gurukul society (ST, SC, BC, Minority) currently conducts its own entrance test for grades 6 to Intermediate and Degree courses. The only exception is Class 5 admissions, where a common entrance test is held for all societies. Students select their preferred society at the time of application, and admission is based on merit and society‑wise cut‑off marks.

Future unified entrance system

The Telangana government has approved a single entrance test for all Integrated Gurukul schools (classes 6, 7, 8, and first‑year Intermediate & Degree) from the academic year 2025–26. This common test will replace the existing separate exams, reducing confusion and ensuring transparency. Backlog seats in grades 6–8 will also be filled through the same unified process.

  • Single application form for all welfare residential institutions
  • Centralised merit list – students can opt for any society/campus based on rank
  • Online portal for registration, hall tickets, and results (planned)

Degree admissions – TGUGCET

The Telangana Gurukulam Under Graduate Common Entrance Test (TGUGCET) is a state‑level entrance exam for admission into 1st year Degree courses (BA, B.Sc, B.Com, etc.) across all Telangana welfare residential degree colleges (TGTWREIS, TSWREIS, TGBREIS, TGMREIS). Eligibility: Passed Intermediate (10+2) or equivalent (including vocational courses) with a minimum 40% marks (35% for SC/ST).
