Kortikal Falls

💧 Kortikal Waterfalls
Wayside monsoon cascade | 5m drop | NH44 roadside pool | Near Nirmal, Telangana

🌊 Kortikal Waterfalls – a seasonal roadside waterfall located near Kortikal and Bandam Ragadi villages, Nirmal district, Telangana. Situated just 15 km from the famous Kuntala Waterfall and 15 km from Nirmal town, this 5‑meter‑high cascade comes alive during the monsoon (August–October). The water plunges from a short but wide rock formation into a vast pool below. It lies right next to the four‑lane NH44 (formerly NH7), making it a perfect pit stop for travellers heading into the Adilabad interior. The waterfall is seasonal – best visited in peak monsoon when the flow is strong. The pool at the bottom is popular for wading and swimming, but caution is needed as the bottom has scattered rocks.

Kortikal Waterfalls – monsoon cascade by NH44

A refreshing highway surprise. Kortikal Waterfalls is not a towering plunge – it drops only about 5 metres – but what it lacks in height, it makes up in accessibility and charm. Located just off the busy NH44 (Hyderabad–Nagpur highway), the waterfall is a favourite for travellers who want to stretch their legs, cool off, and enjoy a quick dip without a long trek. During the monsoon, the wide rock face is covered with a thick sheet of water, and the pool below invites swimmers. The surrounding landscape is green and agricultural, with fields and low hills.

The waterfall is purely seasonal. From August to October, the runoff from surrounding fields feeds the cascade, though the water can be muddy. Outside the monsoon, the pool remains but the falls reduce to a trickle or dry up completely. Locals and passing tourists often stop here for a picnic or a short break. While the site is not developed for tourism, its highway‑side location makes it one of the most convenient waterfalls in Telangana – no trek, no forest permits, just park and enjoy.

🕐 Best Season & Hours

Best season: August – October (monsoon and immediate post‑monsoon). The waterfall has strong flow and the pool is full.
Rest of year: Minimal or no water; only the rock face and pool visible.
Visiting hours: Daytime only (no lighting). Since it is on the highway, you can stop any time, but avoid after dark for safety.
Entry Fee: Free.
Note: The water can be muddy due to agricultural runoff – not recommended for drinking or sensitive skin.

⚠️ Safety & Accessibility

The waterfall is right next to the highway – be careful when parking. The pool has submerged rocks; enter slowly and avoid diving. There are no changing rooms, railings, or lifeguards. The site is undeveloped (no shops, no toilets).

⚠️ Waterfall Features & Important Cautions

Height & Flow: The cascade is only about 5 metres high, much lower than nearby Kuntala (45 m). However, during peak monsoon, the volume of water is high, and the wide rock face creates a curtain effect. The pool at the bottom spans a good area, making it suitable for wading and swimming.

Caution – Rocks in the pool: Unlike many waterfalls where the pool is sandy or deep, the pool at Kortikal has a rocky bottom. Swimmers can easily hit their feet or body against submerged rocks. Always enter slowly, feel the bottom, and avoid jumping or diving. The water may be muddy, reducing visibility. Non‑swimmers should stay in shallow areas near the edge.

Seasonal nature: The waterfall is fed by local runoff, not a perennial stream. Outside the August–October window, the flow becomes a trickle. The pool may still hold water but the scenic cascade disappears. Plan your visit during the rainy months.

🚗 How to Reach Kortikal Waterfalls

By Road (easiest): The waterfall is directly on NH44 (Hyderabad–Nagpur highway), approximately 15 km from Nirmal town towards Adilabad / Kuntala. Look for the bridge / culvert near Kortikal village.
