Built on 65 acres of land near the historic Saroornagar Lake, the palace was constructed by the sixth Nizam of Hyderabad, Mir Mahbub Ali Khan (Asaf Jah VI) , as a hunting lodge and summer resort for himself and his family. The palace is named after a village that Asaf Jah II had given as a gift to the wife of his Prime Minister, Nawab Arastu Jah Bahadur.
